Forecasting Tournament Best Practices

Here are some tips to consider that may help improve your performance during the tournament:

  • Include rationales for all of your forecasts. Rationales give context to why you think a certain way; they don’t need to be long, but they should be informative.
  • Update your forecasts incrementally and often. Research shows that the most accurate forecasters tend to make small updates to their forecasts as new information becomes available or their thinking evolves.
  • Be collaborative with your teams – try having quick 30-minute meetings once per month or once per week to tackle one question together. You’ll be surprised how much a team’s score can improve just by talking through information and helping each other see different perspectives.
  • Most importantly, have fun!

General note about rewards: Winners will receive their reward via money transfer through the apps, Gusto (U.S.) or Veem (outside U.S.). We can only fulfill reward payments for individuals residing internationally in countries supported by VeemINFER rewards and challenges are completely voluntary. If you choose to participate, there may be instances, such as for team-related challenges or to claim a reward, where you may need to identify yourself by sharing personal information, including your email address, with your teammates and/or the INFER team. If you do not feel comfortable providing this information, you do not need to participate. INFER reserves the right to modify challenge guidelines or reward amounts.
