Will the French data protection authority (CNIL) announce a fine against Clearview AI before 31 July 2022?
Facial recognition software company Clearview AI has come under scrutiny by multiple governments for collecting images of citizens without their consent and using them to build a database for their facial recognition software (GPDP, ICO, TechCrunch). In December of 2021, the French Data Protection Agency (CNIL) ordered Clearview to delete data collected on persons within French territory (CNIL, The Verge). In May, the President of the CNIL said that they were considering levying penalties against Clearview, indicating that they may believe that Clearview has failed to comply with this order.
This question will be resolved “Yes” if CNIL announces a fine against Clearview AI. Previous fines have been announced on their website.
